Community Outreach Program
Attention group leaders! Is your group interested in learning more
about whales, dolphins and their amazing abilities? The Dolphin
Institute has a number of highly informative, multi-media presentations
that we can bring to you!
Each presentation is packed full of vibrant images and videos,
props, displays and educational activities to enhance the material
presented. Each presentation is developed differently for different
ages. Each presentation listed below is age- and material-appropriate
for each grade level range listed. We will present to 3-year-olds
to adults!
Presentations can be arranged separately or as a series. Each presentation costs $30 and accommodates up to 60 people. Let us
educate you!
Dolphins
Introduction to Dolphins and TDI
3-6, 7-8, 9-12
Dolphins are amazing creatures! Learn all about their anatomy,
senses, behavior, how they relate to the marine environment and the whales and dolphins of Hawaii's waters.
You'll also learn about our research with our dolphins. Though interactive activities and video, you'll learn about our famous studies investigating dolphin intelligence, language comprehension and echolocation.
The Watery World of the Dolphin
Pre-K, K-2
Explore life in a pod as we use our imagination to take a journey
through the sea. Let's all pretend we are dolphins. The dolphin
day is very busy!
Learn about these amazing animals through movement,
song and imagination. Catch fish, play, avoid danger and rest just like real dolphins! You're sure to be left wanting more after this active educational adventure!
Whales
Introduction to Humpback Whales and TDI
3-6, 7-8, 9-12
The magnificent humpback whales make their way to Hawaii each winter
to mate and give birth to calves. Learn about humpback anatomy,
behavior and activity both on the feeding grounds and on the breeding
grounds.
Also discover how we study humpbacks each winter on the island of Maui. Learn about or boat- and shore- based research as well as fascinating information about the mysterious songs that whales sing while here in Hawaii.
The Long Migration of the Humpback Whale
Pre-K, K-2
Learn all about humpbacks and their amazing migrations. Why do they leave Hawaii each year at springtime? Where do they go? What do they do?
Though imagination, interactive activities and song, uncover oceans of information about these large, mysterious sea animals.
Next, make your way through our migration obstacle course! Fun watery adventures abound during this exciting program.

Becoming a Scientist
3-6, 7-8, 9-12
What is it like to study whales and dolphins? Learn about field
research and laboratory research and the benefits of each.
During this interactive program, experience
"data collection" and possibly come up with some exciting
research ideas for future study! This program will show you some of the exciting ways science is applied at The Dolphin Institute and in the real world.
Marine Conservation
K-2, 3-6, 7-8, 9-12
Whales and dolphins are beautiful to watch but many species, including species resident to Hawaiian waters, are
in serious danger!
Learn about current conservation issues affecting
whales and dolphins through several interactive activities and come up with some simple ways we can help.
