What is TDI? This is the website of The Dolphin Insitute in Honolulu, Hawaii, affiliated with the Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Laboratory (KBMML) at 1129 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, HI 96814. (808) 593-2211. For over 20 yeras, we have been dedicated to dolphin research in cognition and sensory systems (Tursiops truncatus, an odontocete), as well as humpback whale research. We have generated over 100 scientific publications, and a full listing is found within this Dolphin Institute Webpage. The Director and Founder is Dr. Louis Herman, professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Of course, on our front page is our Quicktime Virtual Reality panorama tour of our laboratory, created by our sponsors at Apple Computer and Pacific Media. The Dolphin Institute web page is hosted by Pixinet of Hawaii (www.pixi.net).

Education: The Dolphin Institute is proud of its commitment to educating the public both globally through our research findings and locally through our varied educational programs for Hawaii's residents and school children. Our educational programs are set up specifically to accomplish our ambitious goal of preserving and protecting all marine life. It is our hope that we can instill in each program participant a personal connection with marine mammals and a desire to protect these creatures and their fragile ocean home. Conservation through education, awareness through understanding is what will ultimately help marine mammals and all marine organisms in the wild.
