How do dolphins communicate? This is very difficult to study in the ocean. Why? For one reason, it's next to impossible to figure out who is whistling to who.
Our philosophy is that we first need to figure out whether dolphins can understand elements of language before we try to figure out if they communicate with one of their own.
In human languages, word order is very important. In school, you study this in grammar class. For example:

![]() |
|
| The deer is eating the grass. |
The
grass is eating the deer.
|
See, the order of the words is very important! Moving words in a sentence changes the meaning of the sentence. Do you think dolphins would be able to understand that?
