How can I join a team?

It is easy to join one of our teams for our project, "Studying Maui's

Humpback Whales". Teams of participants assist our research on humpback whales for two to four weeks (or more, if you desire) from January through April. Participants play a key role in assisting us on our research boats, at our hilltop observation station, and in processing our data. It's a unique and exciting educational and hands-on experience! Researchers and participants live together in a house on Maui near the study site.

It's easy to sign up for the Surveying Maui's Humpback Whales project!

Reservation and Cancellation Policy: A $200 deposit is required to reserve a single space on a two-week team. A $400 deposit is required to reserve a space on a four-week team. Please note that the deposit is nonrefundable; however, it is transferable to another team (where space is available) should you no longer be able to participate on your scheduled team. Your balance is due 90 days prior to the start date of your team. Should a participant cancel prior to the first day of their program, the following amounts of balances are either transferable to another team (where space is available) or refundable (the deposit is non-refundable).

Note. Any cancellations received less than 30 days prior to the program or during a program will result in no refund. For those participants that pay the full cost of a program at once, $200 of this payment will be considered a deposit per team and the above refund and cancellation policy will apply.

Health Insurance: Participants are required to be at least 16 years of age and to have their own health insurance. Proof of health insurance coverage is required.

Once you have sent in your project application and deposit, you will be sent a project briefing listing all the details of the project, including itineraries, rendezvous information, and background reading material to fully prepare for your exciting expedition. You then make your own travel arrangements and meet us at the rendezvous site for the beginning of what is sure to be one of the most enjoyable adventures of your life!
